[Sassy's] - the restaurant in question.

"You bet," Daisy confirmed. "This is my place, so whenever you try to sneak something by, all I have to do is remind myself."

"For table nine?" Bryanna questioned, quickly placing the three plates on a tray. "Rodney, tables six, seven, and eleven, come on! We have customers waiting."

Rodney grumbled and mumbled angrily as he took his large bin. Isabela put a ticket on the spindle and hurried to pour a soda for table three.

"Rodney, do you need glasses?" Isabela demanded.

"Damn! I only have two hands, you know?" Rodney shouted.

Daisy shook her head in disapproval. She hoped no customers would complain about the profanity. In fact, she planned to fire Rodney. This was her home they were ruining. She had stacks of resumes from hopefuls who wanted to work with half-naked girls.

"Forget it," Isabela said, sliding a tray of still-warm glasses into the service rack.

Just a few minutes before five in the evening, April Long entered through the back door, putting her long black hair up in a net. She ignored Rodney's excessive greeting and grabbed the first ticket from the spindle.

"Hi Miss Sassy," Frankie Wilson, a short, stocky brunette greeted April as she entered the back of the restaurant. "Shut up Rodney; I don't need your garbage today, got it?"

"Fuck, whatever, stuck-up bitch," Rodney grumbled as he put the rack of dirty dishes into the dishwasher.

"You're working a double?" April asked Rodney.

"Nah, no, Danny's in the bathroom," Rodney responded. "This is my last load. Why? Do you need me to stay?"

"Not if I don't need you," April said, putting the patty on the bottom half of the bun. "Flynn! Order's up."

"So, Miss Sassy, why do we have to wear these uniforms?" Isabella asked as she followed Daisy out into the back parking lot.

"Yeah, my dad almost went crazy over it," Bryanna added, pulling on her half-shirt.

"Why?" Daisy asked, smiling. "Uh... because I like it?"

Isabella shook her head, smiling. Bryanna flashed her breasts at Daisy, Isabella, and Morgan before getting into her father's beautifully restored 1964 Pontiac GTO Road Racer.

"Because," Daisy thought to herself as she closed her car door. "If I have to put up with these unpleasant young girls, at least I can enjoy looking at them."

While April worked hard at Sassy's, Daisy noticed a strange automobile in her driveway. She was annoyed; the 2001 Toyota Camry with the New Mexico license plate blocked the entrance to her carport. She was also confused because Blakely usually made her study group attendees park on the street.

"Hey Mom," Grant smirked from his usual seat at the kitchen table.

"Grant," Daisy exclaimed.

"So, um, Mom, do you have anything you want to share about um, that cute little Hispanic girl you have at your place?" Grant taunted with a knowing smirk.

"My girlfriend," Daisy replied. "Where is she?"

"In your bedroom, I think," Grant guessed.

"Well, I've been working hard in the kitchen all day. Let me go take a shower," Daisy said, fighting back her anger.

She wished she could slap the annoying smirk from her ungrateful, insensitive son's face. She was proud of her sexuality, but his knowing smirk made it feel shameful to be in a relationship with the sweet, amorous Blakely.

"Blakely, he's a pig," Daisy yelled when she entered the bedroom.

"Yeah, he is. Call the police. He's wanted for unpaid child support," Daisy hissed.

In the shower, Daisy allowed a few tears to roll down her cheeks. Then she thought of the years of struggling to survive, often skipping meals so that Grant, Graham, and Felicity could eat. She thought of the numerous Christmases where she struggled to buy gifts for the children. She thought of her granddaughters having to grow up in hand-me-down clothing, and their mommies having to survive on welfare. With determination, she washed the day's sweat from her body, then rinsed off.

Blakely looked up from her textbook and licked her lips playfully as Daisy walked, naked, into the bedroom. Daisy smiled and kissed the girl before getting dressed in soft, comfortable clothes. With one more kiss to Blakely's lips, Daisy exited the bedroom, gently closing the door behind her.

"So, Grant, what have you been up to?" Daisy asked, keeping an eye on the street outside of her kitchen window.

"I used to work in Canada for a bit," Grant commented. "You know how cold it is there, right? But the pay is great."

Daisy was taken aback by the mention of Canada and then remembered that the car up front had New Mexico plates.

"Canada?" she questioned.

"Yup. Then, I met this geologist, Alana. anyway, she clued me in on these copper mines in New Mexico. Best part? No snow at all in winter!" Grant mentioned.

"So, you've been sending your child support checks to..." Daisy inquired, seeing a DeGarde Police Department cruiser pull up behind Grant's car.

"Screw them!" Grant growled. "Morons thought..."

"No Grant, don't you recall wanting to be Batman for Halloween?" Daisy exclaimed, following Blakely's advice to knock on the passenger side door. "Remember wanting a new bike for Christmas? Screw you then."

"Jesus Christ, you even called the cops?" Grant shouted, enraged. "My own fucking mother?"

"Of course, I did," Daisy said firmly as Officer Leanne Schoenberger read Grant Ungelle his rights.
