Eva's perspective

Eva rushed down the stairs, determined to catch a taxi waiting outside her building. She had thrown on a celebratory red cocktail dress, which she glanced at in the mirrored elevator walls, relishing in her appearance momentarily before exiting onto the ground floor. Her mind was clouded with the lingering feeling of impending danger, intensified by the worrying news of her friend's kidnapping. Yet, she tried to push her anxiety aside and concentrate on what lay ahead: meeting Jax.

She hailed a waiting taxi, relieved to escape the shadow of fear that loomed over her. As the cab pulled away from the curb, Eva inhaled deeply, attempting to clear her mind.

However, the terrifying memory of Hayley, bound and nude, with her vagina stretched and oozing semen on her face implored her to plead for mercy played repeatedly in her mind. Her friend's face gradually altered to her own, causing chills to run through her spine.

"Are you okay, ma'am?" the concerned cab driver questioned as he glanced at Eva apprehensively. She plastered a weak smile and nodded her head.

"I'm just a little cold," she replied, readjusting her grasp on her purse. A noncommittal grunt echoed from the driver.

Eva leaned her forehead against the taxi window, watching the cityscape of Darklight City unfold before her eyes. The shadowy darkness cast eerie shadows across the bustling streets, enveloping her tense thoughts in a murky cloak. As the cab neared Tony's bar where Jax had requested they meet, Eva prepared to brace herself for this encounter.

The cabbie interfered with her thoughts again, "Miss, shouldn't you call someone? Your phone keeps making this noise."

Eva glanced down at her phone and realized it had been constantly buzzing. She whipped out her phone from her purse and perused the screen, spotting Erik's name. Her son was trying to reach her.

"Oh, it's my son," Eva murmured, looking more apologetically at the cabbie. "I'll call him once we're at the bar."

The cabbie grunted and they both remained silent as the cab whisked her through the streets of Darklight City. The constant vibrations from her cell phone continued to distract her, making it difficult to think clearly about her impending meeting with Jax.

With growing unease, Eva reached into her purse to attend to her buzzing phone. Her fingers clenched around it, her mind shifting from her son's messages to wondering if she should answer or not.

Her thumb paused over Erik's name, a crippling guilt gnawing at her. "What should I do?" she questioned herself, her thumb hovering over the contact.

Her reason sparked within her, asserting that she needed to ignore her son's worries temporarily and focus on her date with Jax. "I shouldn't worry him even more, so I'll call Erik later," she thought.

She typed out a text, "I'm caught up right now, Erik. Don't bother waiting up. I'll check in with you tomorrow." She knew her message sounded cold and uncaring but couldn't think of any other words to ease his worries in her heartbroken state.

Just as the cab slowed down due to a roadblock, Eva alighted. "Let me off here. I can walk the rest of the way," she told the cabbie.

The cabbie nodded and pulled over, "Sure thing," he responded.

Eva stepped out of the taxicab, feeling an oppressive sadness settle on her as she realized that something was terribly wrong ahead. She thought, "Jax and I will have to find a way to a different bar. There's an overturned truck blocking the road."

And at that moment, her eyes met the cab driver's, who caught a glimpse of her exposed fishnet stocking-shrouded legs and high heels, adding a feckless smile, "You're sure you don't want me to wait for you, ma'am?"

Eva nodded, ready to brave the potential dangers in her pursuit of love.

"Yeah, just pull over here." Eva replied instantly, dismissing the man's gaze upon her legs.

With that, the driver pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and parked. Eva exited the vehicle, reaching out the window to pay the driver. He lolled his head towards her chest as she leaned in slightly to hand him the money. He had the audacity to say, "Have a good night, Miss" with a smirk on his face, letting Eva know precisely what sort of lustful thoughts were going through his mind.

Eva paid him swiftly, clenching her purse before striding away. She hadn't allowed herself time to dwell on the driver's extra attention before he took off.

"Walking will help me clear my head a little bit," Eva said to herself.

Erik's message lingered in her thoughts, but she pushed it aside, focusing on her mission. Her heels clicked rhythmically down the pavement as they echoed along the deserted street. Eva inhaled the fresh, chilly air, allowing it to stimulate her senses while temporarily providing relief from her worries. Her flowing hair trailed behind her, swinging with the powerful gusts of wind. Despite being warmer due to her abilities, Eva could still feel the cool breeze brush against her dress, making her rethink her agreement with Jax's "no panties" request.

Eva could sense someone following her from a distance. The sound of heavy, fast footsteps drew closer to her, and her heightened senses alerted her to the mysterious follower. There was a slim chance they meant no harm, but the unsettling thought of potentially ending up like Hayley preyed on her mind. While she had the ability to overpower one person, that would mean potentially exposing her powers—something that terrified her. Furthermore, Hayley too had powers, and she couldn't protect herself upon that realization. Eva didn't want to take any risks.

Suddenly, the notion of being accosted in a dark alleyway by a faceless stranger caused anxiety. Her body tensed, and she made up her mind at once. She abruptly halted, wheeling around on her heel to spot her pursuer.

Standing in the shadows was a muscular figure. Eva had mere moments before he might apprehend her; if a confrontation occurred, she'd be forced to reveal her powers. However, avoiding him completely would offer an opportunity to dodge him while concealing her skills.

She eyed a small gap between two buildings, leading to an alley that might provide shelter and the possibility of escaping. Without another thought, Eva slipped to the alley, disappearing into the enveloping darkness. She waited anxiously as the footsteps of the man neared her previous location.

Evan crept through the darkened passageway. It was lined with buildings on either side, casting substantial shadows that only rounded pools of moonlight illuminated. This was the ideal hiding place. A couple of cats skulked near the entrance, their eyes glaring at her as she cautiously approached them. As she progressed deeper into the alley, the ambient traffic sounds gave way to the gentle whisper of the night.

The construction worker stepped onto the street, and Eva felt relief wash over her. It was simply a laborer wearing heavy work boots and carrying his toolbox. Recognizing her paranoia had caused her to see enemies everywhere due to her friend Hayley's news, Eva decided that she had become resentful of her abilities. While her powers granted her protection and invincibility, they were also causing her to live in constant fear—leaving her with the notion that she and her son would never lead a normal life.

Her mind was occupied with this revelation, realizing that as long as she possesses these powers, she and her son would always need to remain vigilant and fearful for their safety.
